Description

While Open Threads invites participants to explore and develop their own spatial and artistic ideas as well as material/media processes, the focus is on methods of collective feedback and critique around the topic of textile. As textile and vestimentary practices are present across disciplines, this course wants to provide a platform for an interdisciplinary discourse. Despite different backgrounds, contexts and applications, the logics of textility and dress can be relevant for our structural, political, philosophical and aesthetic thinking and doing. In this course, we want to give an insight in our projects and practices and share diverse interests, skills and expertise.Interdisciplinarity// Open Threads understands knowledge production as mutual and intersubjective, challenging fixed binary distinctions of teacher and student, producer and recipient, as well as creation and critique. Emphasis is placed on a structured mode of mutual interest and care, where openness means a politics of situated practices that necessarily includes reflection on history, art, critical and political theory.Learning Objectives// Students learn to critically reflect their own work and contextualize them in a wider discourse and interdisciplinary enquiries. They practice to formulate critique towards their colleagues. Beyond that they can find a peer-group across disciplines and exchange knowledge from multiple perspectives.Didactical Setting// Open Sessions follows a structured methodology of different and changing roles and steps.Roles: Presenter, Responders, MediatorsSteps:Presentation: Presenter introduces the project, makes it clear where it is in process.Discussion: Presenter takes a break, while responders discuss the work freely in small groups.a) Open questions to the presenter.b) ”What worked for us…”c) Perspectives: ”As an audience, we need....”d) Tips, suggestions, recommended references.Sharing: Presenter returns, Mediators introduce group discussions on a, b, c, dReflection: Responders write a word they feel is central to the concept or that the presenter should consider. Presenter comments on the collection of words.
