Beschreibung

The seminar ‚Unglued Timber Constructions‘ focuses on the joining of timber building components such as: beams, columns, ceilings, and walls. Unglued elements can be sourced close to the construction site. Bigger industrial process and long transportation routes can be avoided and the energy required for production can be kept as low as possible. In the seminar, particular emphasis is placed on the joining of short and rectangular timber elements, the necessary disassembly and the reuse potential of single components. References to various resource-efficient constructions from architectural history will be researched. The analysis will be discussed with a structural engineer specialized in circular construction and conclusions will be drawn for todays building practices. Traditional joinery techniques enable durable yet reversible constructions. Hybrid approaches that combine solid timber structures with metal components will also be considered. The seminar will examine how well these can be disassembled and reused, and what adjustments might be required for modern joints.Students will produce handdrawn posters in DIN A0 format. Through colorful, large scale representations of single components, joints, or the constructive system the potential of unglued timber constructions will be explored. The seminar is intended as a design preparation for the Summer Semester 2026 and will be held in intensive block sessions and in English.
